Central Cruises Past William Penn in First Home Game of 2025

Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Women's basketball team returned home for the first time in 2025, picking up a much needed win over William Penn Saturday afternoon inside Puckett Field House.

Central defeated the Statesmen 79-55 to snap a three-game losing skid.

With the win, CMU improves to 7-10 and 4-9 in the Heart of America, while WPU drops to 2-12 and 1-9 in conference play.

The Eagles outscored the Statesmen in every quarter beginning with a 15-8 opening frame.

The Statesmen had a better second quarter offensively, scoring 15 points. However, CMU still held a 31-23 lead at the halftime break.

The Eagles dropped 23 points in the third quarter, increasing their lead to 54-36.

Central outscored WPU 25-19 in the final frame to come away with their second largest win in conference play this season.

Senior Sharay Trotter led Central's offense with 16 points while also adding four rebounds and two steals to her stat line.

Sa'Mya Stevens finished the night with 15 points, with seven coming from the charity stripe.

Kayhla Adams was a big contributor as she tallied 14 points which included four three-point baskets.

Adams and freshman Nautica Washington provided stingy defense, as the duo came up with four steals each. Washington matched Adams with 14 points.

Sophomore Kaelyn Johnson added 10 points in 19 minutes off the bench, while Tristan Porter and Bianca Bindzus led CMU on the glass with five rebounds each.

The Eagles were outrebounded by William Penn, 34-31, but forced 26 turnovers on 15 steals.

CMU shot an even 50 percent from the floor and converted 42.1 percent of its three point makes, ultimately knocking down eight three point baskets.

Central will next travel to Olathe, Kansas Wednesday, Jan. 15 to face MidAmerica Nazarene University at 5:30pm.
