Crimson Wave Men's Basketball wins fourth-straight, routs Andrews University 93-38
The CCSJ men's basketball team remains unbeaten to start the season after a 55-point win against Andrews University on Tuesday evening at the Rittenmeyer Center.
Whiting, IN – The Calumet College of St. Joseph men's basketball team defeated Andrews University 93-38 on Tuesday evening at the Rittenmeyer Center. 10 different Crimson Wave players registered a field goal in this game as they won their third game of the season by at least 30 points.
"Our team played hard and together," men's head basketball coach Jason Hawkins said. "Our defense was good and we need to get better at executing on the offensive end, but they are good things ahead for the Wave!."
How it Happened
The Wave got off to a great start both offensively and defensively, posting a double-digit lead in less than four minutes of action. The 12-1 run from the start was led with a 3-pointer from Zion Morgan, followed with seven straight points from Josh Morris.
CCSJ's defense was smothering, forcing Andrews to miss 14 of its first 15 shots. The Crimson Wave lead would only continue to climb as Hrvoje Majcunic made the Wave's third 3-pointer of the first half to extend the lead to 20.
By the end of the first half, both Morris and Colby Wiggins had 11 points each and CCSJ was holding a commanding 27-point advantage.
The Crimson Wave shot 16-of-35 (45.7 percent) in the first half, compared to the Cardinals who shot 6-of-31 (19.4 percent).
Coming out of halftime, CCSJ continued to extend its lead as Morris scored four quick points, coupled with a pair of 3-pointers from Wiggins and Scott Gowan.
The Wave's largest lead reached 57 points and they cruised to their fourth win of the season.
So far this season, CCSJ is averaging 94.8 points per contest on 51.4 percent field goal shooting. They're holding opponents to 58 points per game on 33.2 percent field goal shooting.
Crimson Wave Leaders
Colby Wiggins led all scorers with 18 points and four made 3-pointers. Josh Morris had 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. Zion Morgan posted 12 points and center J.Caleb Slawinski had eight points and eight rebounds. Scott Gowan filled the stat sheet with eight points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Off the bench, Jacob Shafer and Hrvoje Majcunic had nine points apiece.
