Gibson Drops 41 points as Knights Overwhelm Rust Bearcats
TUSCALOOSA [JANAURY 4, 2025] – SUNO sophomore forward Jamal Gibson dumped 41 points Saturday night as the Knights increased their conference win streak to six with a 103-90 win over Rust College.
Gibson's performance pushes him closer to notching 1,000 career points in his next game.
"Jamal's play tonight was like nothing I've seen before," said Head Coach James A. Matthews, III. "Scoring 41 points and grabbing 17 rebounds in one game is really unheard of at this level, but 'Tall' consistently performs like this."
As a team, the Knights continued their display of team chemistry with 28 assists and 23 second-chance points. They were immovable with 70 points in the paint.
"After our game against Wilberforce, I told my team we have to do better with our turnovers," Matthews continued. "Tonight's game was indicative of the progress we've made in that area and we saw the direct impact of that on our game. It allowed for more points in the paint and assists."
Tyon Thompson had a standout performance with 18 points and a career-high 14 assists. Devin Daniels chipped in 16 points and seven rebounds.
The Knights return to the court Monday to take on Fisk at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast on SUNO Knights TV.
