JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Milligan University women's soccer squad met up with Johnson University on Sunday night at Science Hill High School in Johnson City, hoping to notch their fifth straight victory in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. It was not exactly the result that the Buffaloes hoped for, but they managed to play to a 0-0 draw in the rainy conditions.
The Buffs' record stays at .500 for the year at 4-4-2, and their conference record is now 4-1-1 with the tie.
A slow first half did not result in much, as the two teams were held to only two shots apiece with one from each side testing the opposing keeper.
The second half was a bit different, as Johnson stepped up offensively with multiple opportunities to score in the period. Luckily, Akyla Walcott was up to the challenge, making six saves in the half, including a pair of one-handed rejections over the crossbar on high shot attempts.
All of Milligan's shot attempts came off the foot of Lauren Hawkley, as the squad was held to just three shots, with two of them being saved by the goalie.
Walcott's record now stands at 3-4-2 for the season with the tie, but the stat line and effort that she put forth was worthy of much more than a draw.
The Buffs now head on the road to tussle with St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, N.C. on Oct. 2 at 2:30 p.m., as Milligan looks to get back in the win column.
