
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- Zak Tucker surpassed 2,500 career assists and 100 career aces as the Siena Heights men's volleyball team defeated WHAC opponent Mount Vernon Nazarene, 3-1, on Friday night. Set scores were 15-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-20.
Tucker totaled 32 assists, six aces and six digs for SHU (4-4, 1-1). His top target to set was Daniel Rua, who finished with 20 kills and four blocks.
Jonathan Stovring had seven kills and five blocks while Santiago Salazar planted seven kills.
Siena Heights overcame a slow start after MVNU took an early 1-0 lead.
The Saints finished the second set with a 6-1 flurry and never trailed in the third and fourth sets.
In the third, SHU started 3-0 and held off MVNU the rest of the way. After the host Cougars (1-7, 0-3) pulled within 11-10, the Saints enjoyed a 7-0 stretch; Tucker had three aces and three assists while Rua made two kills and one block.
Another 3-0 SHU start began the fourth. Mount Vernon pulled within one point on six occasions after that, but never came into a tie.
Tucker entered the night with career numbers of 2,498 assists and 96 aces. He now has 2,530 assists and 102 aces, which rank Nos. 2 and 3 in Siena Heights history.
The Saints have a quick turnaround with a WHAC home match on Saturday. Indiana Tech will visit the SHU Fieldhouse for a 3 p.m. serve.
