Knights Win Big on Opening Day
KCU got on the board in the top of the second inning after Dontaye Tinnell doubled, scoring one run, Aidan Bevan singled, scoring two runs, Daniel Hernandez singled, scoring one run, and Yan Rivera hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
The Knights scored six runs on four hits in the top of the third inning. Cristian Garcia singled, scoring one run, Korneilus Durant induced Hernandez to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Rivera singled, scoring one run, and Fidel Alviar doubled, scoring three runs.
Tyler Sammons earned the win for KCU. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and two runs over four innings, striking out three and walking four. Durant took the loss for Morris College. The pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, allowing 11 runs on 10 hits, striking out one and walking three. Jake Hoffman tossed one inning of scoreless ball for KCU in relief. The reliever surrendered zero hits, striking out none and walking one.
KCU collected 13 hits in the game. Alviar drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Knights with three runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Justin Legg, Alviar, Tinnell, Garcia, Hernandez, and Rivera each collected two hits for the Knights. KCU stole five bases in the game and turned one double play.
