Clinton Women Fall Short at FL Cruzin Classic

MIAMI GARDENS, FL - The 10th ranked Clinton College women's basketball team, unfortunately, dropped both of their road games down in North Miami at the Cruzin Classic earlier this week at St. Thomas University.

The Bears first fell to NAIA foe Aquinas College (Mich.) in a close battle, 53-47 on Tuesday afternoon at STU. The host Bobcats of St. Thomas then controlled their contest with Clinton taking it 68-39 on Wednesday afternoon.

A low-scoring matchup with AQ saw Clinton take a 25-22 lead at halftime before aquinas grabbed it back with a 15-9 third quarter. AQ then held off the Golden Bears 16-13 in the fourth to grab the win and improve to 8-5 on the year. Clinton was led by senior fowards, Kourtney English and Diamond Moore-Heath as they each scored 11 points and combined for 13 rebounds.

Clinton shot just 28 percent from the floor and 31 percent from three while grabbing 12 steals off 20 Aquinas turnovers. 

STU held the Bears to just 4 points inthe opening quarter as they went on to take a 29-20 halftime edge. St. Thomas then exploded for 26 points in the third limiting CC to just 10 before winning the fourth 13-9. Clinton shot just 24 percent for the game and only 21 percent from three. STU shot 50%.

Clinton was led by 8 points apiece from guard Tameah Gaddis and forward Kourtney English. English also added 5 rebounds and an assist while Gaddis had 8 rebounds, 2 assits and 2 steals. Guard Jala Hutchins led the team with 5 assists and two steals while Diamond Moore-Heath added 5 points and 5 rebounds. Off the bench, the Lady Bears were led by six points from guard Akiyonna Joiner and 7 points from guard Jabrica Leslie.

The Lady Bears fall to 8-3 with the losses and will next enjoy their holiday break before returning to action on January 14 by hosting SMC at 5 PM.
