Warriors collect road GPAC win in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. - The Waldorf volleyball team went on the road to collect a four-set conference win Saturday at the College of Saint Mary (17-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-21).
The Warriors lost the first set to the Flames, but they bounced back to take the final three. Waldorf raced out to a 7-3 lead in the second set behind stellar service from Rachel Watson who recorded one service ace. Saint Mary though scored the next five points to take a lead. Waldorf countered by scoring six of seven points that culminated with a Juliet Karlen ace. Late in the set, back-to-back kills from Kaylin Koch and Alicia Brandt helped put an end to the set in favor of the Warriors.
Waldorf trailed for most of the third set until a late four-point spurt gave them a 22-19. Jayln Hovenga ended the set with a kill and another 25-22 set win.
Trailing 8-6 in the fourth, Waldorf tallied seven straight to take a 13-8 advantage. Karlen added two more service aces in the spurt. Waldorf continued to hold a lead until a CSM error ended the set and the match in favor of Waldorf.
Kenzie Kidd had a tremendous effort for Waldorf with 15 kills and 14 digs. Koch added 10 kills. Kaylee Kidd led with 15 digs. Watson led with 20 assists. Reinya Balderson added 19.
Waldorf (8-7, 2-4 in GPAC) returns home to face Concordia (Neb.) Friday at 7:30 p.m. The JV match precedes at 6 p.m.
