Waleska, GA – The Reinhardt women's volleyball team continued their season with a 3-game weekend at the Columbia International Tournament. The Eagles ultimately went 2-1 against Michigan-Dearborn, Faulkner University, and Spartanburg Methodist.
The Eagles first matched up against Michigan-Dearborn on Friday afternoon and fell 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-27, 19-25). After taking the first set 25-18, UM-Dearborn took the next 3 in close scores.
RU's Jenna Smith and Giulia Julve did a great job offensively, slamming down 12 and 10 kills respectively. Ashlynn Barnes recorded 30 total assists, while freshman, Halle Janik recorded 11. Defensively, Silvia Aguado led with 12 total digs, while Juliette Baffico added 10. Jenna Smith not only led offensively, but also led in blocks with 2.
Then on day two of the tournament, the Eagles first played Faulkner University. Faulkner first took set one 25-23. However, Reinhardt battled back beautifully, earning the next 3 sets to take the win (3-1; 23-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-13).
Jenna Smith and Giulia Julve played lights outs as they recorded 16 kills a piece. Juliette Baffico was next with 12 kills. Ashlynn Barnes was the winning setter with 46 total assists and 12 digs. Silvia Aguado was the squad's high with 13 total digs. Caroline Curry and Emma Ponkova dominated the net with 4 blocks a piece.
Finally, the Eagles matched up against Spartanburg Methodist and took the 3-0 SWEEP (3-0; 25-20, 25-14, 25-16). RU dominated, tallying 39 total kills, hitting a .265. They also recorded 43 digs, 10 service aces and 6 total blocks.
Giulia Julve proves time and time again that she is a offensive force, once again leading in kills with 11 (.346). Juliette Baffico was next with 9. Ashlynn Barnes was the winning setter with 33 total assists. Defensively, Silvia Aguado led with 10 digs, while Julve and Baffico added 9. Caroline Curry led in blocks with 5, while Jenna Smith added 4.
Up next, the Eagles will begin their conference season with a home game against the Truett-McConnell Bears. The match will be played on Thursday, September 12th, at 6:30pm.
