
Marshall, Mo. - The Central Methodist Football program fell to Missouri Valley College by a final score of 35-17 Saturday afternoon in Marshall, Mo.
Central falls to 0-5 and 0-1 in Heart South Division play. MVC improves to 3-1 and 1-0 in conference action.
MVC struck first at the 1:31 mark of the first quarter on a 41 yard rushing touchdown to take a 6-0 lead. The Vikings attempted a two-point conversion, but were unsuccessful. Central responded on their ensuing possession with a six play, 75-yard touchdown drive that took less than three minutes.
The drive was capped by a 42 yard touchdown pass from Jordan Gile to Dawan Lomax for six. The extra point put Central out in front, 7-6 early in the second quarter.
However, Missouri Valley would score 22 unanswered points in the second and third quarters to take a 28-7 lead. CMU's first points of the second half came on a 37 yard field goal from senior Oscar Simon.
The final scores from each team came via back-to-back scoring drives. Missouri Valley stretched their lead to 35-10 on an 18 yard touchdown pass to close the third quarter.
Trailing by double digits, Lomax put the Eagles' final points on the board courtesy of a nine-yard touchdown run. He finished the day with his second consecutive 100-yard rushing performance, carrying the ball 24 times for 118 yards including a rushing touchdown and a receiving score.
Gile completed 11 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown pass.
Defensively, Joseph Daniels registered eight tackles while Jarrell Mitchell and Brenden Dye each tallied five. Devin Watson and Y'Marius Joshlin both recorded sacks including a forced fumble for Joshlin.
Nathaniel Smith recovered a fumble and Jaylon Williamson picked up an interception.
CMU returns home to host Missouri Baptist University Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1:00 p.m. as part of Homecoming festivities.
