No. 21 Eagles Complete Perfect Weekend with Sweep of Statesmen

Oskaloosa, Iowa - The No. 21 Central Methodist Volleyball program completed a perfect weekend on the road with a three-set sweep of William Penn Saturday night in Oskaloosa, Iowa. 

Central defeated William Penn by scores of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-15. 

With the win, the Eagles improve to 23-5 overall and 12-2 in conference play, while William Penn falls to 16-14 and 6-8 in the Heart.

Central cruised from start to finish, concluding the match with a .241 hitting percentage compared to .019 for the Statesmen.

The Eagles held William Penn to a negative hitting percentage through the final two sets while also recording seven total blocks. 

Sophomore standout Martina Gonzato had another solid outing, registering 15 kills on 25 swings for a .400 hitting percentage. Junior Joana Milho followed with eight kills while also tallying seven digs to her stat line. 

The duo of Annabelle Maassen and Mia Trankler recorded six kills apiece, while Maassen added nine digs, two service aces and an assist. 

Trankler led the middles at the net, contributing six blocks. 

Freshman setter Giulia Gainelli quarterbacked the offense, dishing out a team best 19 assists in addition to six digs. Senior Gabi Owczarek finished the evening with 14 assists and four digs. 

Rita Campos registered 16 digs, six assists and a pair of service aces in the win. 

Central remains on the road for a huge matchup against No. 24 Benedictine College Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 7:00 p.m in Atchison, Kan. The Eagles are currently 1-2 in the Heart of America regular season standings.
