WALESKA, GA - The Reinhardt Eagles showcased their might in a dominant 96-71 victory over the Point Skyhawks during the RU Classic Tournament on Saturday. Playing on their home court, the Eagles put forth a stellar performance from start to finish, solidifying their superior position in the tournament. This was the final game of a successful RU Classic, which hosted Ave Maria (FL), Thomas University (GA), and Point (GA).
The battle started off hot for Reinhardt with an impressive 50-29 score by halftime, a margin that significantly influenced the game's momentum. They kept the same momentum going through the second half, almost getting 50 again. The Eagles' offense was electric, ensuring a significant lead throughout the game. Key players for Reinhardt included Tee Williams, who was exceptional on the court with 21 points and 8 rebounds, and Nate Jones, who contributed 15 points. This duo has shown the potential to be a very deadly weapon for Coach Newton's team this season. Jones has proven himself by leading the Eagles in the 2023-24 season, and so far, Williams has shown that he is just as good. This duo has the ability to create havoc this AAC season.
The game's defining moment came late in the second period, with the Eagles maintaining a substantial 27-point lead at 01:25. This was thanks, in part, to active playmaking and critical substitutions by the coaching staff. Derrick Brown and Donovan Pearman also made significant contributions, bringing defensive skills that frustrated the Skyhawks' strategy. Brown led the team with 9 rebounds and chipped in 8 points.
Joining Jones and Williams in double-figure scoring was Brasen James with 14 points and Nekhi Fisher with 12.
The victory advanced Reinhardt University's season record to 3-1 and showed what this team is capable of when all players are focused and locked in. Looking forward, the Eagles are set to face Middle Georgia State in an away game next Saturday at 2 p.m. The team looks to carry this victorious momentum as they move closer to AAC play. There is much interest in seeing how this team will perform against some of the heavyweights of the AAC.
