
Marshall, Mo. - The No. 18 Central Methodist Women's Volleyball team continued their winning streak with a convincing three-set victory over Missouri Valley College Friday night in Marshall, Mo.
Central is now winners of six consecutive matches, improving their overall record to 14-3 and 4-1 in the Heart of America. Additionally, the Eagles have now defeated Missouri Valley in 12 consecutive matches dating back to the 2018 season, with 10 of those wins coming in straight sets.
In the first set, the Eagles took control early, winning 25-18, thanks in part to a stellar performance from sophomore Martina Gonzato, who was just two kills shy of double digits in the match. She also recorded a .238 hitting percentage.
Despite Missouri Valley's efforts to adjust in the second set, they were overpowered by CMU once again. Central cruised to a 25-11 win after starting the set with a 9-4 lead
The Eagles increased their lead to 20-7 before scoring the final five points and securing the victory. The third set mirrored the first, as CMU finished the match with another 25-18 victory.
Freshman Giulia Gainelli was pivotal, leading Central with 17 assists and 10 digs to earn a double double. Joana Milho matched Gainelli with 10 assists and was just behind Rita Campos who led the defense with 13 digs.
Gabi Owczarek nearly joined Gainelli in the double double club with 12 assists and eight digs.
Junior middle hitter, Mia Trankler finished the evening with four blocks while Kiya Kolb regiestered three service aces.
Gimena Dezeo had a solid evening, tallying seven kills on 15 swings for an even .400 hitting percentage. She also picked up four digs and three blocks.
Annabelle Maassen followed with six kills, seven digs and a block.
Central Methodist will next travel to Columbia, Missouri Monday, Sept. 30 for a pair of non-conference matchups against (RV) Ottawa and No. 25 Columbia College at 4:00 and 6:30 p.m. respectively.
