
DENMARK, S.C. - The Clinton College women's basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter to edge NAIA foe Voorhees University 58-57 on the road Monday night.
A low-scoring first quarter saw the teams combine for just 15 points while VU took a slight 22-18 halftime lead. At the end of three quarters, the Lady Tigers had extended their lead over the Golden Bears to eight at 43-35. However, Clinton then rallied in the fourth outscoring VU 23-14 including a 10-0 run midway thru the period that tied the game at 52-all. Voorhees would then take their final lead at 57-52 before CC used two layups and free throws to score the final six points and steal the win.
Clinton improves to 12-3 overall and will next head down to Florida to battle South Region foe Fort Lauderdale Univ. on Friday at 5 pm.
Clinton was led by two players in double-figure scoring as senior center Diamond Moore-Heath recorded 12 points and 9 rebounds while junior guard Jala Hutchins had 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Junior guards Akiyonna Joiner and Jabrica Leslie also played well off the bench combining for 17 points and five rebounds while forward Alaijah Kirk-Veal tallied six points.
CLINTON 60, MORRIS 49
SUMTER, S.C. - The Lady Bears also won on the road Saturday afternoon in Sumter defeating fellow NAIA foe Morris College 60-49.
Clinton led 30-22 at halftime after outscoring the Hornets 16-9 in the second period. CC then extended their lead to 12 points after three with a score of 46-34 before holding off MC for the 11-point win. The Bears shot 51 percent overall and 70 percent from three (7 of 10) while making 15 of 18 free throws.
Clinton was led by 12 points again from Moore-Heath while Hutchins scored nine with 3 boards and 2 steals. Seniors Kayla Pope and Kourtney English then added 8 points apiece and 5 total rebounds with 3 steals and a block from English. Shabrica Leslie also added 8 points while Joiner had four and 3 assists. Forward Emory Smith and J. Leslie combined for 11 points as well.
