Eagles Win Home Opener Over Spartanburg Methodist
Waleska, GA - In a thrilling Home Opener at the Brown Athletic Center, the RU Men's Basketball edged out the Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist with a nail-biting 93-91 win on Tuesday evening. The Eagles showcased their determination and skill, culminating in a breathtaking final seconds three-pointer by Tee Williams that clinched the victory.
The game was tightly contested from the start, with the Eagles leading 46-37 at halftime. By the final buzzer, the high scorers for Reinhardt were Williams with 27 points, Nate Jones contributing 18 points, and Derrick Brown adding 14 points. Williams not only led in scoring but also made significant contributions across the board with 8 rebounds, one steal, and one assist. Additionally, Nate Jones impressed with his all-round performance, adding 5 assists and 2 steals to his 18 points. Point guard Zae Wiggins hit double-figures as well, scoring 13 points for the Eagles. Tucker Lowe was the next highest with six points.
Williams' 8 rebounds led the Eagles, with Donovan Pearman pulling down 5, and Blake Seitz grabbing 4 rebounds.
Reinhardt built a double-digit lead with about nine minutes left in the first half, and they maintained the lead until the final minutes of the game. The pioneers went on a run to get the lead to single digits to make the final two minutes very interesting. One of the most pivotal moments came as the clock wound down; Williams hit his three-pointer with less than twenty seconds left in the game, putting the game out of reach for the visiting Pioneers. This victory marks a strong start to the season for Reinhardt, now holding a 1-0 record.
Looking ahead, the Eagles will host Thomas University this Friday, November 1st, at 7 pm. The game is part of the RU Classic, which has Thomas, Ave Maria, and Point playing Friday and Saturday with the Eagles. Reinhardt plays Point University on Saturday at 2 pm.
