Des Moines, Iowa - The No. 6 CMU Women's Soccer team began their pursuit of another conference regular season title Saturday night, as they traveled to Des Moines, Iowa to face the Grand View Vikings.
It didn't take long for the Eagles to get the upper hand in the contest, as leading goalscorer Kirstine Lykke opened the scoring just four minutes into the match with her 10th goal of the year.
The Eagles concluded the first half outshooting the Vikings, 9-0, and held a 1-0 lead at the break.
Lykke took it upon herself to double the visitor's lead in the 47th minute, giving the Eagles a bit more breathing room.
With the Vikings sitting back all game long, the shots for the Eagles were harder to come by than expected. However, Central continued to have good spells of possession in the second half.
CMU secured their third goal of the match courtesy of Abbie Crispell, who sealed the victory for the Eagles in the 83rd minute. The trio of Suzu Narusawa, Andrea Jimenez, and Moka Ishii all picked up an assist each for CMU.
Central concluded the night with 16 total shots compared to the Vikings' one shot in 90 minutes of play.
With the win, the Eagles remain unbeaten at 6-0-1. Central Methodist will next face No. 23 Missouri Valley College Tuesday, September 17 at 5:00 p.m. in Marshall, Mo.
It will serve as the first meeting between both teams since last year's Heart Tournament Championship game.
