Women's Basketball falls in close contest with Aquinas

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia women's basketball hosted Aquinas Tuesday evening for a WHAC contest.  The game was closely contested throughout, but the Saints pulled away late for a 68-60 win. 

 

Abby Long led the team with 18 points.  Brooke Brauher came in second with 12 points.  Lauren Borsenik was in double figures with 10 points.  Emily McCalla had a team-high seven rebounds. 

 

 

Emily McCalla had the first Cardinal basket with a layup.  Julia Hirt drove for a layup and Brooke Brauher scored twice inside early on as the game stayed close.  Lauren Borsenik made two free throws and knocked down a triple to briefly put the Cardinals ahead 13-12.  CUAA trailed 14-13 after the first quarter. 

 

Jess Andrew drove for a layup to start the second quarter.  Ryan Moorer had a jumpshot and Avery Collins drained a pair of free throws.  Abby Long tied the game 21-21 with a layup.  Lauren Borsenik made a pair of free throws and Jess Andrew hit a 3-pointer to keep the Cardinals in front.  Abby Long and Jess Andrew kept the offense going with Ryan Moorer adding a late basket for a 34-29 halftime lead. 

 

Brooke Brauher scored inside and added two free throws early in the third quarter.  Aquinas briefly took the lead but the Cardinals answered with a basket by Abby Long and two inside buckets from Brooke BrauherAbby Long continued to pace the offense adding a late triple to give CUAA a 53-52 lead after three quarters.  

 

Aquinas retook the lead with a 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter.  Lauren Borsenik ended the run with a free throw and added a layup.  Avery Collins drove for a basket and Abby Long made free throws as the Cardinals look to make a comeback.  However, Aquinas claimed a 68-60 win as time expired. 

 

Concordia will return to the court on Wednesday, December 4th, when they play at NCAA Division I Central Michigan University at 6:30pm.
