Fayette, Mo. - The No. 6 Central Methodist Women's Soccer team returned home Wednesday to face the Graceland University Yellowjackets, securing an impressive 6-0 victory in their first home match of conference play.
After suffering their first loss of the season in their previous game, the Eagles were eager to get back on track. From the start, they controlled the tempo, holding Graceland without a shot for the first 55 minutes of play.
Senior Kirstine Lykke led the way for Central Methodist, earning her first hat trick of the season, while Paula Castro dished out a team best two assists.
Lykke opened the scoring in the 12th minute, assisted by Castro to put Central ahead 1-0.
Despite several strong shots by the home side and some phenomenal saves by Graceland's goalkeeper Maggie Peterson, it wasn't until the 38th minute that Central Methodist doubled their lead, with Abbie Crispell scoring her second goal of the season.
Graceland tried to adopt a more aggressive approach in the second half, but the Eagles continued to hold possession. Lykke scored her second goal in the 54th minute with a stunning strike from outside the box, and completed her hat trick just minutes later, netting her 14th goal of the season.
With a commanding 4-0 lead, the Eagles kept up the pressure. Lacey Ann Murray added another goal in the 74th minute, and Luisa Schaupp finished off the scoring 11 minutes later, sealing the 6-0 win.
Defensively, the Eagles were equally impressive, allowing just two shots the entire match and earning their sixth clean sheet of the season.
The Eagles will next travel to Baldwin City, Kansas, to face Baker Saturday, Sept. 28th, with kickoff set for 5:00 PM.
