
Foresters Swept By #19 Grace
Winona Lake, Ind. - The Foresters continued the Crossroads League gauntlet of ranked opponents on Saturday when they took on the #19 Lancers of Grace College. Grace swept HU 25-21, 25-17, 25-22.
In a back and forth opening set, Grace (13-2, 7-1) took an early 3-1 lead before HU responded with an 8-0 run to take the lead. Grace responded with a 9-2 run of their own but the Foresters fought back to take a 17-15 advantage. Grace put the pressure back on HU and forced four errors down the stretch to win the opening set 25-21.
The second set remained close until Grace pulled away late for the 25-17 victory. The third set remained within three points until late in the set. With the scored tied at 16, Grace went on an 8-3 run to take a 24-19 lead. The Foresters responded with three straight points to stay alive, but a Grace kill put the exclamation point on the Lancer sweep.
Layla Meyer kept the Foresters in the match with a strong defensive effort. The junior defensive specialist recorded a game best 16 digs. Meyer has 305 digs on the year and 1,224 career digs. Maisyn Robrock led the offensive attack with 12 kills, while Trevyn Terry added seven.
Huntington (11-8, 3-5) will head north to Spring Arbor (9-8, 3-5) on Wednesday to complete the first half of conference play. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
