Milligan Volleyball Crushes KCU in Straight Sweep Win
MILLIGAN, Tenn. – On Tuesday night inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse, the Milligan University volleyball team kicked off a three-match homestand with a bang. In an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) tilt, the Buffaloes swept away the Knights of Kentucky Christian University in short order (25-20, 25-11, 25-14).
In the opening set, the Knights put up a hard-fought battle, but eventually Milligan pulled away with eight of the final 11 points to win 25-20
The second set was the most dominant one for the Buffs, as they controlled play for the entirety of the frame, winning 25-11.
Lastly, the third stanza followed a similar path as the second, as there was never a time when the result was in doubt for Milligan. They ran away with a 25-14 win in the set to earn the sweep.
Shelby Miller's incredible 15 kills on just 25 swings led the squad. She had just a single error on the evening and hit at a pristine .560 clip. Avery Maiden also had double-digit putaways, knocking 11 swings to the floor on just 22 tries. Ella Maiden also had six kills for the squad. Kolbie Greene dished out 29 assists on the evening to lead the team.
Greene supplied 15 digs in the win, while Zoie Larkins added 10. A trio of Buffs had four digs in the effort, as Riley Brinn, Kira Ryan and Sierra Still were responsible for those 12 combined pickups. Miller and E. Maiden supplied solo blocks in the match, while E. Maiden also had a block assist. Kylie Haas added the other block assist for Milligan.
The string of home battles continues on Friday night, as the Buffaloes host Union Commonwealth University on Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m.
