Volleyball Falls in First HBCUAC Divisional Match
Little Rock, Ark. - The SUNO Knights took on the Philander Smith Panthers on Saturday, September 7 in Little Rock. The Knights could not pick up the win but gave the Panthers a run for their money the whole way. Leading the way for the Knights was Freshman Taszia Adkinson who led the team in kills with 6. Defensively, former HBCUAC player of the week Armoni Harris led the team with a match-high 11 digs.
As Harris looks to continue her stellar defensive season, the Knights performed well in the first set and stayed with the Panthers going on a 6-1 run to bring it within 1 point at 16-17. The run started and ended with kills from Adkinson and assists from Sophomore A'Lon Clark. The Panthers woulD then pull away to take the first set. The second and third sets saw the Panthers take advantage of mental and hitting errors by the Knights. After coming within one point in the second set (14-15), PSU went on a 10-1 run to win the set. SUNO got off to a strong start in the third set, taking a 5-4 lead on a kill by Trinity Bloodworth, but another 10-1 run by PSU was too much for the Knights to overcome, as the Panthers took the third set 25-14.
The Knights will look to get back to winning ways when they take on Texas A&M Texarkana and Arlington Baptist in a tri-match on Monday, September 9. First serve against TAMU-Texarkana is 4 PM CT, followed by a 6 PM start against Arlington Baptist.
