
Canton, Mo. - In a nail-biting conference clash in Canton, Missouri, No. 7 CMU (12-1-1, 7-1-0) edged out Culver-Stockton College (6-6-1, 1-6-0) with a 2-1 victory Saturday evening.
The Eagles set the tone early, with Mariana Barreto shining bright. She opened the scoring in the sixth minute, finishing off an assist from junior forward Lacey Ann Murray to give CMU a quick 1-0 lead.
Barreto struck again in the 26th minute, this time unassisted, extending the lead to 2-0 and getting her 11th goal of the season.
Culver-Stockton fought back in the second half, with Rian Moore finding the net in the 68th minute, reducing the deficit to 2-1 and igniting hope for the home side.
Despite their best efforts, and a couple dangerous opportunities, the Wildcats couldn't find the equalizer, as the Eagles' defense, anchored by goalkeeper Madison Priebe, held firm.
Central Methodist outshot Culver-Stockton 13-9, demonstrating their offensive presence while managing to keep the Wildcats at bay. The Eagles also earned five corner kicks compared to the Wildcats' three, further showcasing their attacking abilities.
Prieb finished the match with five saves, while the Wildcat's goalkeeper, Mackenzie Frizzell tallied four.
The Eagles will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 19th, welcoming into Fayette the William Penn Statesmen on Senior Day. Kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. at Davis Field
