Cochran, GA - In a challenging non-conference showdown on Saturday, Reinhardt Men's Basketball fell to the Middle Georgia State Knights with a final score of 64-83. This outcome moves Reinhardt's current team record to 2-3 going into the AAC schedule.
During the first half, the Eagles struggled to keep up with the Knights, falling behind with a score of 27-42 by halftime. Despite their best efforts to close the gap, the Knights maintained their lead, ending the game 19 points ahead. Nate Jones led the scoring for the Eagles with a commendable 19 points. Jones is the returning leading scorer for the Eagles and has also taken that role this year. Supporting the effort, Tee Williams and Nekhi Fisher both contributed 10 points each. Other notable player contributions included Derrick Brown gathering 6 rebounds along with his 8 points, highlighting his pivotal role in the defensive plays. Brown will be a key player going into the AAC schedule giving Coach Newton a solid sixth man who can score and rebound. He can also fill in the starting lineup when needed.
The game witnessed a decisive moment in the second period when Middle Georgia State solidified their lead, setting a pace that the Eagles could not match. This substantial lead carried through to the game's conclusion, marking a tough loss for Reinhardt.
Looking forward, the Eagles will begin their AAC schedule next Saturday back at the Brown Athletic Center, where they will face St. Andrews. It is a double-header Saturday, with the Women's Basketball team starting at noon followed by the Men's team at 2 pm.
