Warriors run win streak to five with two Friday wins

OSKALOOSA, Iowa - The Waldorf volleyball team ran their win streak to five Friday with a pair of wins Friday on the first day of the William Penn Tournament.
The Warriors first match of the day was a rematch against Culver-Stockton. Waldorf beat the Wildcats 13 days again in a four-set match in Canton, Missouri. Friday's match was a lot tighter. The Warriors fell behind 2 sets to 1. They trailed late in the fourth set before staging a rally to stay in the match. Down 20-16, a pair of Jalyn Hovenga kills helped trim the deficit to 20-19. Kills from Karyssa Watson, Alicia Brandt, and Anna Longhenry helped Waldorf close the set on a 6-0 run to send the match to a fifth and deciding set. The fifth set was all Waldorf. They jumped out to an 11-4 lead. Culver-Stockton tried to stage a late rally, but a Longhenry kill closed out the set and the match. Waldorf won 26-24, 21-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-10. Longhenry led Waldorf with 14 kills. Reinya Balderson had 23 assists.
Waldorf faced Graceland in their second match on Friday and came away with a four-set win (25-18, 18-25, 25-15, 25-15). Waldorf trailed in the first set 15-10 before going on a 6-0 run to take advantage. They would score seven of the last eight points to take the set. Waldorf dropped the second set, but they would easily take the third and fourth sets to claim the victory. Kenzie Kidd led Waldorf with 11 kills and 9 digs.
Waldorf (5-2) takes on St. Francis (Ill.) and William Penn Saturday for the second day of the William Penn Tournament.
