Buffs Volleyball Win Streak Extends to Five with Four-Set Win at TWU
ATHENS, Tenn. – Entering Tuesday night's Milligan University women's volleyball Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) matchup with Tennessee Wesleyan in Athens, the Buffaloes had won four straight matches and tallied sweeps on every occasion. The streak would continue after a slow start to the battle, as the Buffs managed a 3-1 victory over the hosting Bulldogs (20-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-17).
After a slow start in the match's opening set, in which the Buffs scored just one of the first 11 points, Milligan fell 25-20 to the Bulldogs to open the match. From that point on, though, Milligan took care of business to triumph in the next three sets.
While Avery Maiden led the team with 15 kills, the major story of the night was freshman Isabel Cameron, who put away 11 swings on 18 attempts to attack at .611 without an error. Ella Maiden also had 11 kills out of the middle, taking a total of 24 whacks at the ball with only a single attacking miscue. Kolbie Greene played the entire match, collecting 40 assists across the four-set triumph.
Zoie Larkins led the squad with 25 pickups in the battle, with Greene (15), A. Maiden (12), Sierra Still (12) and Riley Brinn (10) also notching 10 or more digs. A. Maiden had two solo blocks and a pair of block assists in the match, while Cameron also added two solos and an assist on a rejection. E. Maiden and Still also had solo stuffs, while Addison Varney added a block assist.
With the win in four sets, the Buffs' win streak goes to five matches, and tonight first-set loss is the only set that Milligan has fallen short in during that stretch. Next up is a road matchup with the closest opponent in the AAC, Johnson University in Knoxville on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m.
