Softball splits with Cleary

(Howell, MI) - CUAA softball traveled to Cleary University on Saturday afternoon for a WHAC doubleheader.  The Cardinals took an 8-0 mercy rule win in game one before falling 6-5 in a tight game two. 

 

GAME ONE – CUAA 8, CLEARY 0 - 5 Innings 

 

Paige Anderson pitched a complete game, making five strikeouts The Cardinals put up four runs in the first inning, starting with an RBI double by Faith Cramton to score Megan Martin. Maddy Greuter then used a sacrifice fly to score Katie Tobias Elyse Brittain hit an RBI double to drive in Faith Cramton Bella Lee capped the inning with an RBI single to send Elyse Brittain home.   

 

Elyse Brittain hit a 2-run homer in the third inning to extend the lead In the fourth inning, Faith Cramton used a sacrifice fly to score Payton Lewis Elyse Brittain added a bases-loaded single to drive in Megan Martin.   

 

The Cardinals were able to maintain their shutout to secure the 8-0 mercy rule win after five innings. 

 

GAME TWO – CLEARY 6, CUAA 5 

 

Elyse Brittain started game two on the mound notching three strikeouts in 4.2 innings Katie Tobias opened scoring with a 2-run homer in the top of the first Cleary countered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.   

 

In the third inning, Payton Lewis hit an RBI double to score Morgan Scott and tied the game 3-3 Katie Tobias hit a go-ahead single to drive in Payton Lewis and later reached home on a wild pitch Cleary tied the game 5-5 with a 2-run homer in the fourth inning.   

 

Kendall Kahl pitched the final 1.1 innings of the game Cleary was able to take the lead with a run in the sixth inning. The Cardinals loaded the bases with three straight singles in the seventh inning, but Cleary was able to hold on with no runs allowed to secure a 6-5 win.   

 

 

CUAA will return home tomorrow, March 30th, to host University of Michigan-Dearborn for a doubleheader starting at 1pm.
