Walk Off Gives Eagles First Loss of the Season
Athens, TN - In a tightly contested affair at the Athens Insurance Stadium, the Reinhardt University Eagles were edged out by Tennessee Wesleyan with a final score of 7-5 in game one of the much-anticipated series. Despite a strong performance, the Eagles could not maintain their lead and fell to the Bulldogs, moving their season record to 14-1.
The Eagles initially seized control in the fifth inning, leading by three runs thanks to timely hits and crucial RBI contributions from Adrian Vargas and Jacob Mantooth. Nash Crowell led the scoring for Reinhardt, contributing two pivotal runs, while Vargas, Robert Phelps, and Cade Chamlee each added a run. In terms of RBIs, Vargas proved instrumental, driving in two runs, followed by Mantooth, Crowell, and Barry Eiseman, who each chipped in one.
In the field, Phelps was an ace at short with five assists and two putouts, showcasing his defensive prowess alongside his contributions at the plate.
Starting pitcher Andrew Herbert delivered a strong performance on the mound, throwing for over six innings with a total of 92 pitches. He struck out 8 batters against the top-ranked team in the NAIA, showing why he is one of the best in the nation. He was relieved by Logan Lynch in the seventh inning and recorded two strikeouts.

The Eagles will try again tomorrow as the two teams will face each other again for the series doubleheader. The team aims to bounce back strong and lock down the lead once the have it. Reinhardt has strong arms and are deep, which always makes them a threat to win!
