Eagles Start Season In Win Column
Elgin, IL - On Thursday night, it was the home and season opener for the Eagles' Men's Volleyball team as they hosted the Goshen Maple Leafs. With the two teams previous two meetings going the distance, this match figured to be closely contested. It was a pretty evenly balanced, on this night, it was the Eagles taking home a four set victory, 25-19, 25-23, 23-25, and 25-18.
Judson was able to get the season off on a high note, opening 1-0 thanks in large part to their two key pillars putting in a star effort. Junior masher Mason Snodgrass led the team with 19 kills, and also added four aces on the night.
His efforts were equally matched by senior captain Elijah Wrobel. Wrobel began the campaign with 35 assists, 4 kills, and 4 aces. All four aces came in the forth set including back-to-back-to-back aces to get JU out in front early in the clinching set.
Wrobel's name is a fixture on the school's program records list, and with one more season officially underway, he could really put his name very high on the charts.
Snodgrass certainly made a strong statement in year number two as an eagle, mashing the ball all over the gym. Every time Goshen seemed to make a rally, it was Snodgrass in position to stop the rally.
The Eagles were able to capitalize on Goshen having 36 errors on the night to Judson's 25 errors. In an even game, those errors were seemingly the difference.
Getting extended playing time, Mikey Noettl play well with seven kills. Newcomer Jacob Lowe added two of the Eagles 13 aces on the night.
JU is back at it on Tuesday when they travel to Illinois Tech. They are not home again until February 7th.
