(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia volleyball hosted University of Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday evening to begin the WHAC portion of their season. The Cardinals ground out a 3-1 win to pick up the victory.
Breann June led the team with 16 kills. Emma Leinberger had a team-high of 24 assists. Emiline Wood led the back end with 28 digs. Megan Neumann had a team-best four blocks.
SET ONE: CUAA 25, UNOH 22
Breann June opened the game with a kill. Claudia Grepke added a pair of early kills as the Cardinals built their lead. Jillian Kendrick notched back-to-back aces later in the set. Jacey Powell recorded the winning kill.
SET TWO: CUAA 25, UNOH 22
Megan Neumann ended a 4-0 UNOH run with a kill. Breann June notched two early kills and combined with Neumann for a block. After trailing 19-14, the Cardinals began an 11-3 run with Claudia Grepke recording four kills. Megan Neumann made a block to secure the set.
SET THREE: UNOH 25, CUAA 17
Jacey Powell made the first Cardinal kill in set three. After falling behind 11-5, CUAA made a 5-0 run which included the block by Powell and Megan Neumann. Claudia Grepke and Breann June remained strong forces at the net, but UNOH took set three.
SET FOUR: CUAA 25, UNOH 23
Breann June had the first CUAA kill in set four. Emiline Wood recorded back-to-back aces with Emma Leinberger adding one as well. The Cardinals trailed 23-20 late in the set, but began to rally with kills from Breann June and Jessalyn Peavyhouse. As the CUAA crowd cheered loudly, Breann June hammered the winning kill to close out the game.
Concordia will travel to the Bernice Hansen Athletic Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan this Friday to face St. Francis (IL) at 5pm.
