
Fayette, Mo. - The No. 19 Central Methodist Volleyball team completed its third consecutive sweep, this time over (RV) Missouri Baptist by scores of 27-25, 25-22, and 25-15 Thursday night inside Puckett Field House.
Central improves its overall record to 4-0, while the Spartans fall to 2-8.
CMU found itself in a tight battle in the opening set, as the score was deadlocked at 19-19. Both teams exchanged points, but the score remained even at 23-23.
Central would eventual pull ahead of the Spartans in the opening set, 26-25, courtesy of a kill from Annabelle Maassen. Senior Gabi Owczarek put the finishing touches on the set with a service ace, giving CMU a 27-25 win.
In the second frame, the Eagles jumped out to a 10-7 lead, before the Spartans scored six straight points to pull ahead 13-10. Central settled down and eventually tied the set at 15-15.
CMU pulled out in front by two and never reliquished their lead, winning set two 25-22.
The Eagles closed the match with a convincing win in set three, 25-15. Central held Missouri Baptist to a negative hitting percentage of -.028 which included 11 attack errors. Central finished the final set with only three attack errors.
Joana Milho led the Eagles with nine kills, while newcomer Mia Trankler tallied eight on 13 swings. The trio of Maassen, Gimena Dezeo and Kelsie Walker finished the evening with seven kills each.
Owczarek recorded a team-leading 20 assists while Giulia Gainelli dished out 10 of her own. Rita Campos tallied 19 digs followed by Maassen with eight and Gainelli six.
The duo of Kyndra Collier and Leticia Barea each recorded a pair of blocks.
The Eagles will remain at home when they host a weekend tournament beginning Friday afternoon. Central will face Texas A&M Texarkana Friday at 7:00 p.m.
