Eagles Survive Unexpected Test
Whiting, IN - On Monday night, the Eagles opened up their conference slate on the road against Calumet. On paper, the match projected to be a smooth victory for JU ahead of a busy week, but the result was anything but smooth.
Against a 1-7 Calumet team, the Eagles came out taking care of business winning the first set 25-15.
Calumet did not back down though taking set number two 25-20. The two teams traded the third and forth sets as well, leading to an unexpected fifth set.
In the fifth set, Judson got out to a 10-5 lead looking to finally put away the game. But, once again Calumet rallied back. In a race to 15 in the final set, Calumet got the game tied at 14.
Needing to win by two, Judson was able to get back to back kills by Elijah Gregg and Mikey Noettle to win 16-14, and survive a very game Crimson Wave for the victory.
With the win, Judson is back to over .500 at 6-5, and 1-0 in the conference. This busy week features two more conference games, both at home inside the Nest. On Wednesday they host Olivet Nazarene, and on Saturday afternoon, the Eagles host the #2 ranked Cougars of St. Xavier.
Mikey Noettle led the Eagles with 20 kills, while Gregg added 14. Judson is still without the injured Mason Snodgrass who has missed five games in a row.
Elijah Wrobel had 47 assists and 14 digs. Jackson Otto had 19 digs.
Judson host the Tigers of Olivet on Wednesday night.
