
Fayette, Mo. - The No. 7 Central Methodist Women's Soccer team sent its senior class out on a high note with a 5-1 victory over William Penn Saturday afternoon at Davis Field.
Central improves to 13-1-1 and 8-1 in the Heart of America, while William Penn falls to 3-6-6 and 1-5-3 in conference action.
Prior to the match, Central recognized its senior class which included; Kirstine Lykke, Leigh Brophy, Mathilde Bromose, Renee Berak, Andrea Jimenez, Emma Doyle, Lacey Ann Murray, Kaede Yamaguchi, Abbie Crispell, and Carly Edwards.
The Eagles found themselves trailing at halftime after giving up an early goal in the first 10 minutes of the match. Murray would respond almost instantly out of the gate in the second half, as the senior scored to tie the match at 1-1 just two minutes in.
Sophomore forward Mariana Barreto continued her dominant performance in the regular season, scoring a hat trick with goals in the 53rd, 64th, and 67th minute to put Central out in front 4-1. It marks her third hat trick of the year including third in the last five matches.
Sara Garcia put the finishing touches on the match with a goal in the 78th minute.
Yamaguchi, Murray, and Jimenez each dished out an assist in Barreto's hat trick.
As a team, the Eagles finished with 26 total shots including 13 on frame, compared to just three shots and two on goal for the Statesmen.
Brophy earned the senior day start in between the posts before Madison Priebe finished the game out to earn the win.
Central heads out on the road for a match against Benedictine College, set for Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 5:00 p.m. in Atchison, Kansas.
