KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- The women's soccer team picked up their first win of the young season on Wednesday. The team scored six goals on their way to a 6-0 win against Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent Johnson University.
The team scored three goals in the first half. Lisa Kirwan scored the first goal of the game 6:45 into the game off a Krista Eik Hardardottir assist. The second goal of the game saw the roles reversed as Hardardottir scored off a Kirwan assist four minutes later. Kirwan scored the final goal of the half in the 37th minute, turning a pass from Marte Stokseth into a goal to give the team a 3-0 advantage.
In the second half, the team scored three goals in a span of 13 minutes. The first goal of the three occurred in the 74th minute when Jenna Gibson scored on Valerie Koopman's assist. Three minutes later, Gibson scored again on a Koopman assist to make the score 5-0. Hardardottir made it three players with two goals in the game for the Lady Bulldogs, scoring the final goal in the 87th minute on Koopman's third assist.
Ana Martinez got the start in goal, picking up two saves in the win.
Tennessee Wesleyan (1-1-1, 1-0-1 AAC) will be back on their home field for their next game on Saturday. The team will host No. 21 Truett McConnell University in an AAC game at 5:00 p.m.
