WAU Women’s Basketball Claims Third Win of Season, Defeats Bryant & Stratton-Buffalo 67-61 at Bobcat Bash Tournament

Buffalo, NY – The Washington Adventist University (WAU) women's basketball team continued their strong start to the season with a hard-fought 67-61 victory over Bryant & Stratton-Buffalo on Sunday, November 10, at the Bobcat Bash Tournament hosted by Bryant & Stratton Buffalo. With this win, the Shock improved to 3-2 on the season and capped off a successful weekend on the road.

The game was intense from the outset, with both teams exchanging baskets and neither able to pull away early. WAU's Isabela Lujan-Gonzales led the charge offensively, putting up key points to keep the Shock competitive against a resilient Bryant & Stratton-Buffalo team. By halftime, the Bobcats held a narrow 35-38 lead, setting the stage for a back-and-forth second half.

In the final two quarters, WAU's defense stepped up, creating crucial stops and forcing turnovers that allowed them to maintain their advantage. Deryanis Colon Velez contributed significant points down the stretch, while Tye Queen was instrumental in controlling the boards and limiting second-chance opportunities for Bryant & Stratton-Buffalo. As the game entered its final minutes, WAU held off a late surge to secure the 67-61 win.

The Shock shot 39.1 percent (25-of-64) from the field and forced the Tigers into 20 turnovers. Lujan-Gonzales led all scorers finishing with 24 points, five assists, and three steals, while Colon Velez followed with 9 points. Queen contributed a near double-double performance recording 8 points, eight rebounds, and two steals.

Bethany Fowler (8), Abby Bryant (8), Sanaa Morrow (7), and Melanie Aguilar (3) found the scoring column as well. Eight players saw the floor in the victory.

With this victory, the Shock leaves the Bobcat Bash Tournament with confidence and momentum as they continue their season. WAU looks forward to building on this performance as they prepare for their next game against Georgetown on Thursday, November 14 in Georgetown, KY.
