EAGLES VOLLEYBALL KEEPS IT CLOSE, BUT DROPS TWO IN HOME OPENER

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Avila's volleyball program hit the court on Saturday for their first two matches at Mabee Fieldhouse in 2024.

In the early match, Avila took on Briar Cliff, ultimately falling in three sets.

Avila led for the first half of the first set and had a two-point lead midway through the second set, but fell by a combined six points in the first two sets. A 25-16 loss in the third set gave Briar Cliff the final victory as Avila headed into their matchup with Peru State in search of a win in the home-opening afternoon.

The Eagles dominated the first two sets in the second match, never trailing apart from dropping the opening point. Avila took the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-16.

Unfortunately for Avila, Peru State would fight back to take the next three sets and the match, 3-2. The Eagles kept it extremely close in the fourth set, falling 27-25.

Daphne Gardner continues her strong season, as she finished with 70 assists between the two matches and Maddie Jones added 24 kills in the two games.

Avila is back at home for three matches this week beginning with a 6 PM game on Wednesday evening versus Stephens at Mabee Fieldhouse.
