Volleyball Falls on the Road at SWU

CENTRAL, S.C. - The Columbia College volleyball team fell 3-0 on the road at Div. II Southern Wesleyan University (S.C.) Wednesday evening.

The Lady Koalas fell by scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-17. However, CC played very well during the first set notching 10 kills with only 3 errors while hitting .259 but SWU (1-3) pulled away late in the set for the win. The Koalas then totaled 14 kills over the next two sets but committed more attacking errors leading to their defeat. Columbia finished with 24 kills, 37 digs and 5 aces.

CC was led by 7 kills from freshman hitter Tamia Fripp as she hit .333 while senior OH Jada Gentry recorded 4 kills with an ace and a team-best 11 digs. Freshman libero Katie Roberts finished with 9 digs, one ace and 2 assists while sophomore setter and AAC Player of the Week Debra Shephard had 21 assists, a kill and 8 digs.

Middle hitters Destiny Brown and Mikayla Stout combined for 7 kills while Brown added 2 aces and a dig. Senior OH Gracie Hicklin also had 5 kills and 6 digs and an ace.

The Koalas are now 1-5 on the season and will next face crosstown rival CIU on Thursday on the road at 6:30 pm.
