V-Hawks Narrowly Fall

LA CROSSE, Wis.  – The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team were overpowered by Holy Cross College Saturday afternoon 71-68. The V-Hawks fall to 10-8 (CCAC 3-7) while the Saints rise to 11-7 (CCAC 5-5).

Picking up momentum late in the first quarter Lauryn Goettl would make back to back layups before Macy Stellner would claim the final five points of the quarter with a three and two free throws.

Gabby Fors opening up scoring for the V-Hawks in the second would tie up the game before Aubrey Dorn would take the jumper to claim the lead. Off a timeout Dorn would draw the foul and take to the line before the half ran out.

Looing to make a comeback Stellner would take control of the floor on offense finding McCurdy for the layup before draining a three, with the ball back again Stellner would draw the foul and knock down both free throws. Goettl back on the floor would find Carly Drew for three before making a layup drawing the and one, following it up with another layup to tie up the game once again.

Stellner led the V-Hawks from the floor with 19 points. Grace Adams led the Saints with 20.

The V-Hawks were outshot from the floor 37.5% to 37.3% though performed better from thee 30.8% to 11.8% and outrebounded 31 to 42.

The V-Hawks return to action Wednesday January 22 at Governors State.
