Brookline, Mass. – The Spartanburg Methodist College men's basketball team went on a 14-0 run midway through the first half on its way to a 78-71 win over host Fisher on Saturday afternoon.
Bryan Bayonne led SMC with 28 points, making five of 10 3-pointers and all five of his free throws in the win.
Fisher was able to land three players in double figures with 24 points from KeAndre Penceal. He was joined in double figures by Justin Convington and Ezekiel Edwards, who had 19 and 12 points, respectively. Edwardfs also had 11 reb ounds for the double double.
SMC found itself down 20-15 with 11:14 left in the first 20 minutes. Then, Richard Rojas made one of two free throws as five-different Pioneers scored to erase the lead by the host Falcons.
A 3-pointer by Kennedy Aiken-Shannon put SMC ahead 43-31 at the halftime break.
Edwards made a layup to make it a 74-71 game with 1:25 to go. Then, a steal and layup by DeAnthony Ross with :39 to go sealed the win for the Pioneers.
Next, SMC will close out the regular season with three of its final four games at home and at Bridges Arena. The Pioneers will host Carolina University on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.
