
Eutectics leave Oklahoma still looking for first win of new season
BARTLESVILLE, OK – The second day of the college baseball season for the Eutectics saw the offense come alive, but their pitching was unable to slow down the Oklahoma Wesleyan offense as the Eagles took both games in a Saturday doubleheader and swept the three-game series. OKWU took the opening game 15-5 thanks in large part to a 10-run third inning. The second game turned into a run-fest, but a dozen early runs over the first two innings for all intents and purposes put this one out of reach early as the Eagles went on to win 23-13.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:
- Brandon Gibbs drilled the Eutectics first homerun of the season with a first-inning bomb off Oklahoma Wesleyan starter Michael Mendonza. Gibbs went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. He drove in a pair with a two-run double in the fifth.
- Medonza picked up the win going four innings allowing a run on three hits, walking one and fanning a pair. He moved to 2-0 on the year.
- Eagles pitched only yielded two walks in the opening game.
- Javier Marcial hit a pair of 3-run homers in the 10-run third inning. He was 4-for-4 on the day with a career-high 7 RBI. His high was driving in five in a game last year.
- UHSP starter Tristan Calmes went two innings and got roughed up for six runs on just four hits. He walked four and struck out three. Kyle Smith followed and gave up five unearned runs on three hits over three innings and Wyatt Waters finished the gave going 1.2IP, 4R, 4H, 2BB.
- Eutectic pitchers combined to walk eight batters after yielding seven on Friday.
- Luis Antigua went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in.
- Matthew McDonald drilled a two-run homer in the sixth plating Nolan Harding who had singled.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:
- Deklan Riggs got the start for UHSP and was roughed up for ten runs on eight hits including a walk over an inning-and-a-third as he surrendered five homeruns.
- Victor Sanchez and Chase Pinheiro hit back-to-back homers in the OKWU first.
- Connor Hickey homered for the second straight day as he started a three dinger parade in the Eagles second. Sanchez hit a 3-run homer later in the inning and two batters later, Alejandro Quiles went yard with a man aboard. Sanchez finished 2-for-3 with 5RBI, three runs scored and two walks.
- Jordan Gonzalez followed Riggs and yielded two more long balls over his 1.1IP. Gonzalez gave up seven runs on four hits as he walked six.
- The Eutectics exploded for six runs in the third with Jacob Grim getting the club on the board with a one-out solo homerun. Nolan Harding singled home a pair and after a Malcolm Merriwether single, Matthew McDonald homered for the second straight game, this time a 3-run job.
- OKWU scored five in the bottom of the third with the long ball driving in all five runs. Brenden Poindexter hit a three-run shot and Ravaughn Morgan drilled a two-run shot.
- Connor Hickey had a heck of a three-game series going 6-for-9 driving in five runs.
- UHSP pitchers combined to walk 11 OKWU hitters. The Eutectics walked 26 hitters over the course of the three games.
- Ethan Harrell hit a two-run homer to cap a 3-run sixth inning for UHSP. He followed that with a 3-run homer the following inning in the seventh.
- Oklahoma Wesleya capped off an eight-homer game with a Keegan Woods three-run shot in the sixth. The Eagles drilled 12 homeruns during the series and have now lead the entire country having hit 17 on the season in only six games.

The Eutectics (0-3) head to Tyler, TX next weekend for a four-game set against the Texas College Steers. UHSP then plays their home opener on Feb. 15-16 against Judson (IL.)
