Benton, Ark. – With weather wreaking havoc on the schedule, Central Baptist College baseball hosted the Bobcats of College of the Ozarks tonight in a matinee at Everett Field. CBC (1-8) dropped both ends of the doubleheader to C of O (5-3), losing game one 5-1 before falling 6-4 in extras in game two.
GAME ONE – COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS 5, CBC 1
The Bobcats got on the board first as a wild pitch chased home the first run to put the Mustangs down 1-0 early. The Mustangs responded in the bottom half as Aaron Prince singled home Garrett Fitts to tie the game at one. The score stayed tied at one until the fifth when C of O took the lead 2-1 before tacking on three more in the seventh. Josh Albat started and took the loss, allowing just two hits and two runs (one earned) with a walk and five strikeouts in five innings. Jackson Pope finished the game, allowing one hit and three unearned runs with three walks and a pair of Ks.
GAME TWO – COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS 6, CBC 4 (EIGHT INNINGS)
Neither team scored until the fourth inning of game two, when Jaxon Kirkhuff put CBC on the board with a sac fly to make it 1-0. Prince added to the lead in the fifth with a double to make it 2-0 before C of O cut the lead in half in the sixth. Following a 45-minute lightning delay, C of O took the lead with two in the seventh, spoiling a dominant outing by Gram Middleton, who struck out nine and allowed just one run on one hit in six, and became the third player in program history to record 200 career strikeouts. Josh Lumsden came through late again, tying the game with a single in the seventh to send the game into extras knotted at three. In the eighth, the Bobcats scored three runs to put CBC down 6-3, but the Mustangs wouldn't go quietly, cutting the deficit to 6-4 on a Julian Rodriguez single. That's as close as they got, however, as they left the tying runs on base to end the contest.
