Baseball Drops Two to End Cumberland Series

LEBANON, TN - On day two of a four-game series at Cumberland, UNOH struggled to stop the Phoenix offense falling 16-2 and 7-3 to end the series 1-2-1.

Cumberland got started early with four runs in their first at bat before UNOH got one back in the top of the second thanks to some help from the Phoenix. The run was quickly nulified in the bottom of the inning and the Racers notched one more time thanks to another error in the third. It was all Cumberlands from there as they put up three in the third, three in the fourth, and five in the sixth.

UNOH was held to just three hits logged by Joskar Feliciano, Brennan Green and Fabian Romero.

Andrei Gordeev (0-2) took the loss after being forced out in the first inning giving up four runs on four hits with two walks. Five Racers threw in relief combining for twelve runs on twelve hits with eight walks and seven strikeouts.

A sacrifice fly got UNOH on the board first in the second inning of the final game of the series but back-to-back Cumberland home runs opened the bottom of the frame to put the Phoenix back on top. They blew the game open again in the third with five more runs to take a 7-1 lead after three. Another sac fly in the fourth and a RBI single in the seventh gave the Racers two more runs but was not enough to close the gap. 

Eliomar Otero logged his fourth multi-hit game of the young season going 2-4 at the plate while Fabian Romero finished 2-3 as the only other Racer with multiple hits. Eric Brown, Tyler Huff and Jacob Watson all earned one RBI in the game.

Daniel Healy (0-1) earned his first start but took the loss after two and two-thirds innings. Healy gave up seven runs on six hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Jeremy Yurcak went one inning with one hit one walk and one strikeout. Sinjon Bobolia tossed one and a third innings of one hit ball with no walks and a strikeout. Edyn Barber finished off the final three outs with one hit and one strikeout.

UNOH will travel to No. 17 IU-Southeast next weekend four a four-game series against the Grenadiers February 15-16.
