No. 14 Mustangs ring out 2024 with a road win

BELLEVUE, Neb. – Let's ring out the old year with a victory.

The Morningside men's basketball team went on a key 10-0 second-half run that helped it defeat Bellevue 76-72 on the road.

No. 14 Morningside (13-3) led just by one point with 16 minutes, 47 seconds remaining in the game, but Joey Skoff scored six of his 20 points during that 10-0 run that created enough distance over the Bruins. Daniel Brocaille and Alex Wilcoxson also scored during the rally.

Morningside also forced four turnovers in the final seven minutes, In all, the Mustangs scored 19 points off 15 turnovers.

Justin Sitti scored 13 points, while Brendan Buckley contributed 12. Aidan Vanderloo hit two 3-pointers en route to a 10-point game.

Skoff, Buckley, and Daniel Brocaille all had five total rebounds each.

The Mustangs ended the week -- and calendar year -- with two wins. Throughout 2024, Morningside won 27 games, which included three in the NAIA men's basketball national tournament.

Morningside will make its 2025 debut on Saturday with a 3:45 p.m. tip in Crete, Nebraska, against Doane.
