UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. – The Viterbo University Women's Basketball fell in the Conference tournament Quarterfinal against #1 seed Governors State 73-53 Wednesday evening. The V-Hawks finish the season 15-14 (CCAC 8-12) while the Jaguars rise to 24-5 (17-3).
The V-Hawks were held to free throws while the GSU put up 21 points in the first, Nicole Johnson making a layup from Macy Stellner with less than a minute to go.
Carly Drew hitting the three to open scoring for the V-Hawks in the second, Pearla Teko-Folly continuing the buckets with a jumper before Johnson would move in the paint for the layup.
Viterbo needing to make a move in the second half would find Emily McCurdy with a layup and dishing an assist, Teko-Folly scoring the next four. Marley Hughes on the drive would make the layup before turning around and passing to Teko-Folly for the layup.
Teko-Folly and Johnson with a combination of nine points for the V-Hawks early in the fourth, leading into a three by Aubrey Dorn dished from Shayna Williamson and a final layup by Kira John to end the game.
Johnson led the V-Hawks with 14 points from the floor, while Teko-Folly followed with 12. Tabetha Jones led the Jaguars with 14.
The V-Hawks were outshot from the floor 43.1% to 34.5%, from three 40% to 18.8%, though outrebounded the Jaguars 46-32.
