STERLING, Kan. – More cold shooting in the program's final road game of the 2024-25 season saw Avila women's basketball lose at Sterling on Saturday afternoon, 77-60.
As a team, the Eagles managed to shoot just 36.5 percent from the floor and only converted four of 26 three-point attempts in the losing effort.
Avila scored the first five points of the contest before Sterling took over for the remainder of the game.
Sterling held a 12-point halftime lead and Avila was unable to make a comeback attempt in the second half as the Eagles offense went cold.
The Warriors outrebounded the Eagles, 35-21 on the afternoon but the two KCAC programs were relatively evenly matched in other areas of the stat sheet. The Avila defense forced 23 Sterling turnovers and the Eagles converted those turnovers into 28 points.
Individually, Madilyn Melton had her third-straight 20-point game and fourth in the last five contests, butting up a game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds. Off the bench, Eireon Adams scored 14 points on 5-of-12 shooting.
Avila will wrap up its season with two games from Mabee Fieldhouse on Wednesday and Saturday. Wednesday's tipoff versus York is at 5:30 PM.
