Drovers Stumble at MACU

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Wednesday night, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (6-10, 2-5 SAC) was dealt a three-set loss on the road at Mid-America Christian University (8-6, 4-3 SAC). 

 In the first set, the Drovers built an early lead and proceeded to hold a 15-10 advantage midway through. However, the Evangels caught fire and claimed a 25-22 win in the opening set.

The second set was another tightly contested battle, with USAO jumping out to an early 10-7 lead, but much like the first set, MACU finished strong and captured a 25-19 victory. 

The third set got off to a rough start for USAO and trailed 12-3 early on. MACU went on to wrap up the match with a 25-10 triumph. 

As a team, the Drover offense compiled a .117 attack percentage with 32 kills, while the Evangels recorded a .317 attack percentage and 41 kills. USAO's setters dished out a total of 30 assists, meanwhile the defense produced 48 digs and four total blocks. Mid-America Christian produced 41 assists, 45 digs, and four total blocks. Additionally, USAO scored on five service aces, while MACU tallied eight aces. 

 Jaedyn Adams-Brown and Giselle Calderon led the USAO offense with seven kills each. Calderon also added a match-high of four block assists. Alacia Ledoux tallied six kills and six digs, followed by Jaliyah Cox with five terminations. 

Bailey Makahununiu distributed a team-high of 14 assists, along with three digs. Josie Joyce recorded her third double-double of the season with 11 assists and 11 digs. 

Brynlee Birney recorded 11 digs, three assists, and a pair of aces. Yaiza Larrauri contributed eight digs on defense.

The Drovers will return to action on Friday, September 27 as travel to Southwestern Christian University. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM CT in Bethany, Okla.
