Corban (Ore.) Advances to Quarterfinals on Five Set Win
SIOUX CITY, Iowa [BOX SCORE] - In only the third five set thriller at the 2024 NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship, the Aquinas (Mich.) Saints faced off against the Corban (Ore.) Warriors in pool play. The match was closely contested, with Corban coming out on top with a 3-2 (27-25, 25-13, 26-28, 16-25, 15-11) victory over Aquinas.
Aquinas recorded a total of 60 kills, and Corban was followed closely behind with 59 kills. Mallory Keller led Aquinas with 17 kills, while Kendra Bittle led Corban with 15 kills.
The match was characterized by strong defensive play, with the Warriors totaling 23 bocks (20 assisted) compared to the Saints 15 total blocks (14 assisted). Marissa Uehara of Corban led all defenders in the backcourt with 33 digs in the match for an average of 6.6 digs per set.
This is the sixth time in championship history that the Warriors have advanced out of pool play but only the third time the team has made a quarterfinal appearance. Corban will play Montana Western at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday.
