
UNOH Powers Through Cornerstone 87-60
GRAND RAPIDS, MI - UNOH women's basketball handled Cornerstone from start to finish Saturday afternoon picking up their first victory at Mol Arena since 2019, 87-60. The Racers improve to 14-5 overall with the win giving them the program's most wins in a season since the 2014-15 season (16).
Cornerstone knocked down the first shot of the game on their first possession of the day but it was answered by 18 straight points for UNOH as they opened up with a 28-12 quarter and never looked back. The Golden Eagles briefly cut the lead to single digits early in the third, but a quick 14-2 run pushed the lead back up to 20 points and the Racers coasted down the stretch for a 27-point win, the team's largest win over Cornerstone in program history.
Alysia Lawson and Jayci Allen both cracked 20-points in the game. Lawson finished with a game high 27 hitting 9-20 (45%) from the field and 8-9 (89%) from the free throw line. Allen tallied her fourth double-double of the season bagging 20 points and ten rebounds while shooting 7-12 (58%) from the field and 3-5 (60%) from outside. Ana Montero Sanz recorded 13 points on 5-8 (63%) shooting with four rebounds, four assists and her sixth block of the season. Alycia Patterson added five points and six rebounds with Danajah Peterson logging nine points and seven rebounds.
The Racers held Cornerstone to just 31% from the field and a woeful 10% from long range while shooting 52% and 38% as a team.
UNOH will head to The Don Wednesday night, January 22 for their next matchup against Lawrence Tech.
