Bearcats Bounce Back in Road Win Against IU Southeast
NEW ALBANY, In. – The Brescia University men's basketball team evened their conference record at 2-2 following the 84-71 victory over IU Southeast. The Bearcats bounced back from their loss to IU Kokomo earlier in the week to improve their overall record to 4-8.
The sharpshooting Grenadiers got the tip to start this matchup as a Bearcat foul sent IUS to the line for the first points of the game. Damian Garcia found his stroke as he gave the Bearcats the one-point lead on baskets in back-to-back possessions. IUS tied the score twice as they continued to go shot-for-shot with the Bearcats. Turnovers by the Grenadier offense led to a Mike Caswell open layup to stretch the BU lead to seven with three minutes to go. A Linkin Lockhart three and a Garcia layup pushed the lead even further as BU took a 43-37 advantage going into half.
The Lockhart and Garcia connection clicked again as they drained back-to-back shots from downtown. BU continued to floor the gas pedal as a Louis Penn III jumper gave the Bearcats their biggest lead of the day at 14-points. Despite getting the lead down to six, IUS couldn't mount the Bearcat's lead as BU walked away with the 84-71 win.
Damian Garcia was the thorn in the Grenadier's side as he put up a team and game high of 33 points with six assists, seven boards, and five threes. Linkin Lockhart followed with 20 points, six rebounds, and four threes. Overall, the Bearcats shot 47% from the field and 40% from beyond in the win.
The Bearcats return home Tuesday, Jan. 14 as they take on division rival Oakland City at 5:30pm in the Moore Center.
