Bats come alive as St. Ambrose wins twice

St. Ambrose exploded for 19 runs to earn a pair of wins Saturday in the second Dome Tournament at the Ambrose Dome.

The Bees defeated Cleary 9-2 before taking down Monmouth 10-2 in five innings.

SAU pounded out nine hits in the opener, two each off the bats of Shai Erdrich and Becca Haag. Reagan Engberg, Ellie Downing, Paige Kirkman, Mady Reed and Parker Leonard also had hits.

Erdrich got the Bees on the board with a run in the bottom of the first. Engberg had a two-run triple and Downing added a sacrifice fly to up the lead to 4-0 in the third.

After Cleary pushed across two runs in the fourth, St. Ambrose came back with three runs in the bottom of the frame on a throwing error. Leonard tripled in a pair in the fifth to end the scoring.

Allyson Harrold earned the win by throwing five innings. She allowed just one earned run. Kylie Schult allowed one hit over two scoreless innings of relief.

SAU kept rolling against Monmouth. Kylee Claypool had three hits while Cara Linnenkamp and Kylee Vaughn each had two as part of an 11-hit attack. Downing, Mya Millsaps, Anna Engberg and Bianca Shorter each had one hit.

Linnenkamp's two-run double highlighted a four-run second inning. Downing and Erdrich also drove in a run. Claypool and Anna Engberg had RBIs to push the lead to 6-1 in the third.

Shorter, Linnenkamp, Vaughn and Millsaps each plated a run to close out the game in the fifth.

Leah Maro surrendered two runs over four innings to pick up the win. Linnenkamp threw the final inning.

SAU, now 5-1 on the year, will host the third and final Dome Tournament next weeekend.
