JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Viterbo Men's Volleyball team fell in a five sets to The University of Simpson (Calif) (25-22, 26-28, 25-23, 25-12), and to #7 University of Jamestown 3-1 (25-17, 25-23, 25-12). The V-Hawks fall to 1- 5, Simpson rises to 1-3, and Jamestown improves to 3-7.
Riley Connors set the tone for the set with the first kill of the match followed by a block by Connors and Styrk Myhre, then Myhre and Alex Kratzenstein. The V-Hawks on a three point run would have Logan Amdur set up the ball for Ethan Davis to claim the kill. Daxton Marschall on the serve would get two more points for the V-Hawks before claiming set one.
The V-Hawks in the second set would claim 13 kills, though would fall in their third with only eight compared to Simpson's 14.
Davis led the V-Hawks with 23 kills, while Amdur set up 34 assists and Dugan took 17 digs. Tyrus Cloat led Simpson with 18 kills.
In Viterbo's matchup with Jamestown Amdur would set up Justin Kratzenstein and then A. Kratzenstein for back to back kills. Burton Bosan Jr. on the serve would set up Davis for the kill and an ace. The V-Hawks up by three would lead Davis with back to back kills before the Kratzensteins would send over their own kills. J. Kratzenstein taking set point.
Amdur and Jack Peroz would open set two with a block. Midway through the set Peroz would set up Kratzenstein for the kill before Amdur would set him up for his own.
The V-Hawks claiming the first point would then have Davis with a kill and an ace. Amdur sneaking over an attack for the kill, and Myhre taking the final attack of the third.
Connors taking the first point for the V-Hawks would then end a four point streak set up by Amdur. The V-Hawks following a series of points for the Jimmies, Davis would send over the final V-Hawks kill.
Davis led the V-Hawks with 15 kills, Amdur led with 25 assists, while Dugan took 15 digs. Michal Niemiec and Tomasz Swiderski led the Jimmies with 13 kills each.
The V-Hawks return to action Saturday February 8 for day two of the Jamestown Invitational.
